Electrolysis

At CB Skin and Cosmetic Ink, Electrolysis works by using an electrical current to destroy the hair follicle, preventing future hair growth. It’s a safe and effective method for all skin types and hair colors, providing lasting permanent results. To ensure the best possible outcome, it’s important to follow the Pre and Post-Care Instructions for electrolysis treatments. This guide will help you prepare for your session and care for your skin afterward.

Electrolysis Guide

Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal
What Is Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. It has been around for over 140yrs! During electrolysis, a very fine probe is inserted into each hair follicle using a current that passes through the needle to the hair root, destroying it. The currents delivered to the hair follicle cauterize the hair root, which should prevent each treated follicle from producing hair. Electrolysis only affects hair in the active growing phase, leaving the dormant follicles unaffected.

Does It Work On All Hair?

Unlike Lasers which is mainly suited for dark hair and light skin, Electrolysis Works On All Hairs and All Skin Types as it uses a current to destroy the hair root, where as lasers target the pigment/melanin(colour).

How Long Will It Take?

Their are many factors that influence the hair growth cycle, so the number of treatments will vary from person to person. It is recommended to have regular treatments every 7-15 days in the beginning until you start to see a reduction in hair growth, you can then lengthen your time between visits. Most patients can expect to see noticeable results in treatment areas within 3 months; it may take 12-18+ months of treatments to achieve permanent results in treatment areas due to the natural hair growth cycles.

Does It Hurt?

The Electrolysis treatment process is usually no more painful than tweezing or waxing. We adapt the treatment to suit each individual client and their tolerance. If you have a low pain threshold you may use an anesthetic cream to numb the area. Majority of clients manage well though without the need for an anesthetic cream.

Is Their Down Time?

Following your treatment the skin can appear a little red and sometimes their may be mild swelling. This generally disappears within 24-48hrs dependent of skin type and sensitivity. Sometimes clients may see tiny brown or reddish flakes/scabs, these fall off naturally in a few days to a week depending on ones own healing ability and following proper aftercare. Following aftercare is key to support the skin after your treatment.
